Innovation Project: On the Go! Travel Station

Goal: To provide a comprehensive, continually updated, digital information center for our subway customers throughout the subway system.

Status: A demonstration pilot project is underway to test the functionality of the On the Go! Travel Station. The pilot is expected to run for about six months. Depending on user experience, On the Go! may be installed in stations throughout the system.

What they are: On The Go! serves as an interactive, touch screen, digital information center with the following features:

• Service Status
• Maps for subways, buses, railroads and neighborhoods
• TripPlanner+
• Real-time bus information, where available
• Third-party applications to tell customers about nearby cultural, dining and entertainment destinations
• Current News and Weather

Where they are: This pilot includes three subways stations Roosevelt Ave – Jackson Heights, Bowling Green, and Atlantic Avenue as well as two commuter rail stations Long Island Rail Road's Penn Station and Metro-North's Grand Central Terminal.

Benefits: On The Go! is an innovative tool that gives customers information about their complete trip, from trip planning and service status to information about nearby restaurants and other destinations, resulting in an unprecedented amount of information inside the subway system.

Where the information comes from: Most information comes from mta.info, such as Trip Planner+, service status, and maps. Additional information, such as local history and local dining options, comes from applications created by outside content providers as well as third party application developers using MTA data to bring you the best of what's nearby.
