Important Notice For Pre-Tax Transit Benefit Program Participants

The Federal law that allows a pretax transit benefit of $230 per month has expired. Therefore, the maximum pretax transit benefit amount is now $125 for 2012. Transit benefit users (including Mail&Ride customers) are advised to adjust their secondary payments to make up the difference.

Effective July 1, 2011, MTA Long Island Rail Road will NOT accept paper pre-tax Transit Benefit vouchers (for example "TransitChek" & "CommuterCheck") as a form of payment for ticket purchases at Ticket Office Windows and through Mail&Ride.

LIRR WILL continue to accept Transit Benefit Debit Cards (as information, these cards are processed as a credit transaction):

At Ticket Offices Windows: If the Transit Benefit Card does not cover the full value of the Railroad ticket purchase, use the Transit Benefit Card as one form of payment and pay any remaining amount with cash or check.

At Ticket Machines: Only one form of payment is accepted for each transaction (cash, credit /debit card or Transit Benefit Card). If the Transit Benefit Card does not cover the full value of the Railroad ticket, customers must add funds to the Transit Benefit Card to cover the full value of ticket purchases at LIRR Ticket Machines.

Through Mail&Ride: Input the Transit Benefit Card on LIRR's Mail&Ride Website and pay any remaining value by setting up electronic/automated on-line banking or by check to the LIRR by the 25th of the prior month. If additional help is required, contact Mail&Ride staff at: 718-217-5477 (718-217-LIRR), Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5 PM.

Via WebTicket: Only one form of payment is accepted for the full value of each ticket purchase transaction (credit/debit card or Transit Benefit Card).

Please contact your Transit Benefit Program Administrator at your workplace to select other Transit Benefit payment options, including Transit Benefit Cards and to add funds to the Transit Benefit Card to cover the full value of ticket. Visit the MTA Website for more information.
